OCT 08, 2004 (newstodate): Despite high hopes, the freighter operation from Eveness to Narita remains suspended after the planned summer break.
The flight with a FedEx MD-11F freighter via Anchorage was planned to take 20 tonnes of fresh NOrwegian salmon from to the Japanese market and was temporarily suspended during the slack summer season.
-We have not succeeded in reinstating the operation, says Terje Dubvik, Nord-Norsk Spedisjon.
-The reason is obvious: with the current low rates from Europe towards Japan and the Far East, it is not feasible to operate this flight that hardly pays for the costs of operating in and out of Eveness.
Mr Dybvik says plans for a new freighter operation to lift salmon to the Asian markets still remain on the table.
These plans originally envisaged an operation from Swedish airport Luleeaa Kallax Airport via the new trans-polar routes through Russian airspace, reducing flight times considerably.
