NOV 18, 2004 (newstodate): On November 12, Polar Air performed its last freighter flight at Oslo, suspending service after only six weeks.
-The primary reason behind our decision to lay down the route was too many AOG incidents that caused major irregularities and an unstable service, says Stig Olsson, Polar Air Cargo regional sales manager Nordic & Baltic States.
-This was probably also the main reason behind the fact that we never generated the volumes of cargo that were envisaged in our business plan.
-So rather than sustaining a service that did not live up to our own expectations and those of the market we took the difficult decision to stop the route, says Mr Olsson.
The suspension of the once-weekly Polar Air freighter to Seoul and Taipei, Taiwan, leaves Korean Air Cargo and Aeroflot, both flying twice weekly, alone in the Norwegian freighter business serving Norway's strong salmon exports to markets in the Far East.
