DEC 21, 2004 (newstodate): The battle between Boeing and Airbus for orders from members of the Star Alliance will be tough.
The Star Alliance has decided to formulate a joint specification for both the Boeing 7E7 and the Airbus A350, meaning that the Boeing Dreamliner will now face head-on, big-volume competition.
All 15 members and candidate airlines of the alliance, agreed to joint specification for each aircraft, in a bid to reduce parts, maintenance and acquisition price.
Already a similar joint specification of Bombardier and Embraer regional jets requirement has been decided upon by Air Canada, SAS, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.
