DEC 08, 2004 (newstodate): Continental Airlines has applied DOT for approval of a new route fropm May 5, 2005, between New York JFK and Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
The airline plans to operate Boeing 767 aircraft on daily flights during May-September, and four weekly flights during the winter period.
Continental would thus compete with alliance partners Delta and Aeroflot's flights between New York Newark and Moscow Sheremetyevo.
If Continental secures rights to start the new route it might lead to a cooperation with a Russian airline, notably Siberia Airlines, for connections to and from other Russian destinations.
The proposed US-Russia route would become Domodedovo's first North Atlantic service.
