DEC 10, 2004 (newstodate): Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport will build a new passenger terminal, but the Russian government is determined to have a majority stake in it.
Aeroflot has long planned to build it itself, ahead of the airline's expected admission into the SkyTeam Alliance in 2005. This would enhance its position against the other alliance members.
A construction plan requiring investments of up to 70 million USD has been approved by the state-owned airport and will break ground next year, but Aeroflot later announced its decision go it alone.
But either way, the Russian state will see to it that at least 51 percent of the stakes remain within its ownership.
Earlier this year, the Russian state also postponed plans for privatisation of Aeroflot.
