DEC 07, 2004 (newstodate): Siberia Airlines is planning a major fleet modernisation, talking to aircraft manufacturers to solicit bids.
According to unconfirmed industry sources, the airline has just turned down a proposal from Boeing for 20 Boeing 717 as the deal was considered too expensive for the airline.
-This question must be regarded as a part of our relations with a manufacturer. We do not consider it possible to comment on commercial negotiations as it may hurt the negotiation process. In case of a definite decision Siberia Airlines will inform it partners and the media, says Ilya Novokhatskiy, Siberia Airlines PR-manager.
-Fleet structure is a very important issue in enhancing efficiency. The fleet must be perationally efficient, comply with the route network and with the requirements of aviation athourities of different countries. There is not a lot of aircraft manufacturers in the market. We communicate with all of them, considering different options from Russian and foreign manufacturers alike, he says.
Siberia Airlines' fleet currently comprises eight TU-154B, 28 TU-154M, two TU-204, 12 IL-86, and two Airbus A310-300
