FEB 18, 2004 (newstodate): Estonian Air plans to lease another Boeing 737-500 aircraft this spring, and add a new route from Tallinn to Munich.
The decisions stem from the Estonian Air board of directors' recent meeting confirming a new strategy plan for the airline that is now owned 49 percent by the SAS Group, the Estonian state 34, and AS Cresco with 17 percent.
Estonian Air's fleet currently consists of five Boeing 737-500 aircraft, of which only four are operational.
During February and March, two of the older aircraft in Estonian Air fleet are in turn taken out of operation for heavy maintenance checks at Braathens maintenance in Norway. In January the company leased a Boeing 737-500 to be used as a replacement aircraft. In April the fleet will again be reduced to four aircraft, as Estonian Air is to return the oldest aircraft to its lessor.
The airline has therefore decided to lease a fifth Boeing 737-500 to add capacity for growth. Negotiations are being conducted with several leasing companies, and according to the plan the aircraft will be in operation from April-May.
