FEB 17, 2004 (newstodate): Korean Air Cargo has today confirmed its plans for a new freighter service between Oslo, Norway, and Incheon, Korea.
The first flight is planned for March 9, and the weekly service will be operated with a Boeing 747 freighter.
The freighter will primarily serve the Norwegian exporters of fresh salmon to the Far East, providing tranfer connection to other destinations beyond Incheon including Osaka, Narita, Fukuoka, Hong Kong og Shanghai.
In 2003, Norway exported 1,721 tonnes of salmon to Seoul, 8,567 tonnes to Osaka, 6,288 tonnes to Tokyo, 1,254 tonnes to Fukuoka, 7,066 tonnes to Hong Kong, and 1,114 tonnes to Shanghai (all figures on IATA carriers only).
The new route will stiffen the competition with SAS Cargo's freighter to Hong Kong out of Gothenburg, the tri-partite freighter to Osaka, also out of Gothenburg, and render the start, poised for launch later this spring, of the projected Polar Air Cargo freighter out of Kallax to Korea and Japan even more difficult.
