FEB 19, 2004 (newstodate): Icelandic cargo airline, Bluebird Cargo has signed a lease contract with Boullion Aircraft Services for a Boeing 757-200F, to join the fleet by May this year.
Bluebird Cargo currently operates a fleet of Boeing 737-300F freighters, with three aircraft coming in from April this year on a lease contract with GE Capital after conversion by Israel Aircraft Industries.
In addition to two Boeing 737-300 freighters, the airlines has operated another two Boeing 737-300F aircraft since September, 2002, but these aircraft will be returned to the lessor as the new aircraft are taken in.
-The decision to lease the larger 34 tonnes-capacity Boeing 757-200F is driven by increasing demands in the Icelandic airfreight market for more capacity in both imports and exports, says Thor Kjartansson, Bluebird Cargo owner and CEO.
According to Kjartansson, the Boeing 757-200F, which will operate between Iceland and Cologne, Germany, is replacing one Boeing 737-300 and will continue to serve also TNT.
