FEB 25, 2004 (newstodate): Norwegian forwarding and transport company MAKSI FLYFRAKT SERVICE AS, established in 1980, is seeing great potentials from the new Continental-service from New York to Oslo.
Together with its its Houston-based agent DFDS Transport, Maksi has long been marketing a special logistics service from Houston to Stavanger, targetting the oil industry's needs for deliveries of equipment and spares between the two major oil drilling and off-shore centres.
Annual air cargo volumes from Houston to Stavanger accrue to about 600 tonnes, making Stavanger a major export destination for Houston.
-SAS' earlier decision to decrease frequency on their route New York-Oslo and, from end of March, to close down services alltogether, has of course posed problems for us. So we are quite happy to learn of Continental's start of daily services from this summer, says Bjrn Aril Veland, Maksi freight manager.
-We will now negotiate with Continental to expand our existing cooperation with them to comprise the new service, too, which would cut lead-times on our current services significantly, he says.
Arild says KLM remains the single largest provider of services from Houston, but as this airline's capacity is practically always booked its rates are mostly above actual market levels, rendering alternatives attractive.
