MAR 10, 2004 (newstodate): On April 3, Lufthansa Cargo plans to launch a second round-the-world freighter service from Frankfurt.
The MD-11F freighter will be routed through seven airports will full rights to load and off-load air cargo.
After a first stop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the freighter will fly via Melbourne in Australia to Auckland, New Zealand. From there it will cross the Pacific. Following a technical stopover in Hawaii, the flight continues for Los Angeles from where it will return via Chicago to Frankfurt.
The eastbound flight will be shorter than the existing round-the-world service in a westerly direction.
Thanks to favourable tailwinds, the freighter will touch base again after only 59 hours flight time, while the westbound flight takes a total 66 hours.
