APR 14, 2004 (newstodate): Iraq plans for reopening the airports of Baghdad and Basra for commercial flights in July already, after the transfer of power from the Coalition Forces to Iraq.
-We plan to reopen Baghdad and Basra airports to commercial traffic at the beginning of July as part of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate all Iraqi airports, Fakher Faraj Mohammed, Iraqi Civil Aviation director said at a press conference.
Plans are also underway to reopen Mosul airport, develop airports in Kirkuk and Arbil, and build a new modern airport at Najaf.
