APR 27, 2004 (newstodate): Under its strategy Focus East, Austrian Airlines is preparing for opening, by May 1, its new international routes out of its operational base at Bratislava in neighbouring Slovakia.
Aurstrian has stationed one Boeing 737 aircraft at Bratislava to operate routes from Bratislava to London, Paris and Brussels.
Focus East comprises the goal of raising Austrian Airlines' passenger volumes into and out of Central and Eastern Europe by 50 percent by 2008, from the current level of approximately 1.25 million passengers to a new figure of 1.9 million.
The company has been represented by a subsidiary in Slovakia since 1992, and has operated services to Kosice in Eastern Slovakia since 1996.
