APR 30, 2004 (newstodate): SAS Cargo joined the WOW Alliance with a long-term perspective, and full integration remains a distant vision.
-We recognize that as long as we do not share a joint cash box there are limits to just how deeply we can integrate, says Peter Groenlund, out-going SAS Cargo CEO and president.
One case in point is the implementation, now long stalled, of the "one-roof" strategy with Lufthansa Cargo in Scandinavia, Germany and other European markets where the companies' sales staffs were integrated to sell eachother's products.
-We had to admit that at the end of the day the inertia from being basically dedicated to either Lufthansa or SAS Cargo won over the lofty ambitions of integration, he says.
-We still maintain the hope for an eventual integration, but this will hinge also on governmental and share-holders' approvals in each case. In the meantime we reap a lot of benefits from sharing networks, cargo capacity, joint acquisitions, and product communality.
-But in the short term we still have not seen any immediate contribution to the revenues of SAS Cargo from our membship of the WOW Alliance, says Peter Groenlund.
