MAY 17, 2004 (newstodate): After the merger between Air France and KLM, the two companies' cargo organisations are now ready to follow suit.
In a joint statement, the two airline's CEOs declare that cooperation and synchronisation of their cargo businesses has been intensified to allow for a process towards integration of "a number of activities" from mid-2005.
The two companies will form a "European House" to operate from mid-2005, constituting a joint management structure group in all network, marketing and sales activities.
The airlines say that the negotiation process with Alitalia will proceed, aiming at making Alitalia part of the Cargo Integrated approach in the European House.
The two airlines will now share access to each other's cargo capacity, split a range of passenger-driven network services between them, also comprising changes in the freighter networks from next winter.
From mid-September, KLM Cargo will join SkyTeam Cargo and migrate to the SkyTeam Cargo product portfolio, starting with the express product, Equation.
