MAY 21, 2004 (newstodate): Russia can expect to see almost half of its current aircraft fleet out of service by 2010, and this figure will grow to more than 80 percent by 2015, says a Russian report.
The report, published by the Russian Ministry of Transportation, says some 1,500 commercial aircraft are now in service, but the current annual replacement rate is only 0.3 percent, which is twenty less than required to maintain today's aircraft capacity.
The report also states that aircraft manufacturing plants in Russia are operating at less than 30 percent of their design capacity due to lack of financial resources. They are mainly producing aircraft launched in the last decade, and upgrading older aircraft.
