MAY 18, 2004 (newstodate): Russia is considering an upgrade program to exctend the service life of the ageing TU-134 aircraft.
According to industry sources, some 100 aircraft of this type are currently serving, and after an undate program including modernised landing gears and re-engining their service life could be extended by another 10 to 15 years and ensure the aircraft's compliance with current EU noise regulations.
If accepted by the operators, and life-entension program would also ensure many Russian airlines', including Aeroflot's, access to routes into Western Europe.
