MAY 18, 2004 (newstodate): SAS Cargo has signed contracts with Singapore Airlines Cargo and Korean Air Cargo for freighter capacity on these airlines' flights from Chicago and New York, respectively, to Copenhagen Airport.
Both routes are operated with Boeing 747-400 freighters, and through the contracts SAS Cargo will gain some 64 tonnes of extra North Atlantic cargo capacity every week.
The agreement with Singapore Airlines Cargo takes effect from May 21, and with Korean Air Cargo from June 7.
The contracts will especially facilitate SAS Cargo's recently launched new special time-definite product for large and over-size shipments.
SAS Cargo has earlier signed a similar agreement with Korean Air Cargo for capacity on the freighter service from New York to Copenhagen.
SAS Cargo has earlier tried to launch own freighter services on chartered aircraft over the North Atlantic, but was never able to achieve good results due to imbalances between east- and westbound flights.
