MAY 03, 2004 (newstodate): Romanian carrier Tarom has signed a contract with Airbus for delivery of four Airbus A318 aircraft.
Tarom's cooperation with Airbus started in 1992 when the airline took in its A310 aircraft, the first widebody airliner in its fleet.
Deliveries of the new A318 aircraft are slated for 2006-2007, and the airline plans to introduce the new aircraft on its medium-haul routes in Europe.
So far Eastern Europe has proved a challenge for Airbus, as Boeing has been very succesful in these markets with its Boeing 737-offers.
At the contract signing ceremony, Tarom's president and CEO, Mrs Rodica Odobescu also said that Tarom is planning to join "an international alliance" in the future.
