MAY 05, 2004 (newstodate): Iran's new capital airport near Tehran, Khomeini International Airport will open this weekend after some delays.
The airport's annual cargo capacity is designed to be up to 700,000 tonnes of air cargo, but the process will develop in stages, reflecting market needs and financial viability.
In its first stage, the airport will be able to handle up to 120,000 tonnes of air cargo per year, expanding to 220,000 tonnes in its second phase.
In its third phase, an annual total handling capacity of 357,000 tonnes is planned, increasing to 452,000 tonnes in a fourth phase.
The cargo terminal complex at the new airport covers a total of 20,000 sq. m.
