JUN 18, 2004 (newstodate): Industry rumours about a new direct flight from Tashkent to New York via Riga, Latvia, are now confirmed by Uzbekistan Airways.
-We are indeed working on this project, and if everything falls into place we would like to start the operations this year already, says F. Giyasov, Uzbekistan Airways commercial director.
According to mr Giyasov, the airline plans for a twice-weekly frequency, operated with one of the airline's three Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
The route will provide the Baltic region with its first direct nonstop capacity to North America.
According to market intelligence, the Baltic region generated a total of 1,139 tonnes of air cargo over the Atlantic in 2003, expected to increase by 4.6 percent per year during 2003-2009.
Ths N Atlantic air cargo exports constituted nearly 30 percent of the total volumes in 2003.
