JUN 25, 2004 (newstodate): Korean Air is third Boeing 747-400 Special Freighter customer ordering up to 20 kits to convert 747-400 passenger aircraft into freighters.
The conversion kit is a Boeing turnkey solution delivered to a Boeing-approved modification center for installation. In this case, Boeing certifies the whole conversion, including the parts, engineering and the conversion work itself.
A Boeing-approved modification center will convert the first airplane, to be delivered to Korean Air in August 2006. Korean Air's own Aerospace Division will then convert the remaining aircraft.
The converted freighters are in addition to the two new 747-400 Extended-Range freighters ordered earlier this month and scheduled for delivery to Korean Air during 2005.
Korean Air currently operates 17 Boeing 747-400 freighters and aims at becoming the world's largest cargo operator as the Asian cargo market expands.
