JUL 20, 2004 (newstodate): China Southern Airlines has operated a Boeing 747-400F freighter lifting 500 pigs from Billund Airport, Denmark, to Zhengzhou, China.
The freighter was re-routed from Liege, Belgium, to Denmark to pick-up 15 main deck pallets containing more than 500 breeding pigs weighing more than 65 tons.
Each of the cages were specially built for this project, with specific dimensions to conform to China Southerns Boeing 747-400 freighter. Each cage had three levels with built-in drinking facilities for the animals.
The Danish airport is well-versed in handling of live animal air transports to a wide range of markets.
