JUL 02, 2004 (newstodate): In an effort to win back a share in the freighter market, Copenhagen Airport has announced cuts in charges for freighter aircraft.
Taking immediate effect the airport will lift 50 percent off the charges for all cargo aircraft with a take-off weight over 200 tonnes.
The new scheme will remain in effect for 18 months.
-We have long been among Europe's cheapest airports as to take-off charges for passenger aircraft. With this new rates scheme for freighters we intend to achieve a similar position in the cargo freighter market, too. This will make us Scandinavia's cheapest airport for freighter traffic and secure our competitiveness on a European scale as well, says Lars Korup, Copenhagen Airport cargo manager.
In 2003, the airport generated a total of 335,731 tonnes of cargo and mail, down 10.2 percent on 2002, and the take-off weight of freighters at the airport was down 25.8 percent.
In 2002 the airport's total cargo volumes were down by 1.4 percent, and in 2001 down by 9.6 percent, y-o-y.
