JUL 29, 2004 (newstodate): With Bosnia, Herzegovina's ratification of the Central European Air Services agreement, CEATS, Eurocontrol can now start the implementation of a
single unified air traffic control system for the upper airspace of eight central European nations.
Ratifications concerning the upper airspace over Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the northern part of Italy, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia have alreqady been secured.
Operating from a single control centre in Vienna, CEATS will ensure excellent levels of safety, while offering advantages in capacity, efficiency and performance over the present scheme, under which eight separate national systems manage the flow of air traffic throughout the region.
CEATS also benefits from a Strategic
Planning & Development Unit in Prague and a Research, Development & Simulation Centre in Budapest, while a Training Centre is currently being developed in Forli, Italy.
