JUL 29, 2004 (newstodate): Slovenian airport Ljubljana Airport is keen to see more airfreight transiting to and from neighbouring markets.
-Ljubljana Airport has the potentials to become a hub for the Balkan area and there has already been some progress in this field, says Jure Meznarsic, Ljubljana Airport commercial director.
-We also consider the northern part of Italy and Croatia to be within our catchment area, and we would like to fetch a bigger share of of their transit volumes, he says.
-In fact, now we have been getting very low volume of cargo from these areas. On the other hand there is substantial outflow of freight to Austrian airports such as Linz and Vienna, and we would like to change this pattern.
To boost its cargo marketing potentials, Ljubljana Airport has formed a joint venture with the country's biggest logistics company, Intereuropa.
The vision of the new joint venture is to expand airfreight logistics business beyond Slovenia's borders into other markets in South East Europe, and to enhance the development of airfreight in the area.
