AUG 02, 2004 (newstodate): Aeroflot is seeing a very positive trend in its freighter operations between Helsinki and Moscow.
-The flight is operated twice weekly and now comprises limited import into Helsinki, while ex-Finland exports have more than doubled in the recent months, says Alexander Piven, Aeroflot Finland general manager.
According to Mr Piven, capacity from Helsinki to Moscow varies as the DC-10F aircraft, offering a total cpacity of 65 tonnes, often flies in with shipments from China of which only a part if off-loaded while the bulk is destined for Moscow.
Ex-Finland export capacity has therefore varied from 30 to 100 percent, he says.
-Now we do not operate via Novosibirsk, flying insted from China directly to Moscow, and from there on an empty leg to Helsinki, providing full capacity to the Finnish export market, says Alexander Piven.
According to Mr Piven, Aeroflot will now monitor the situation to ascertain if the current "very positive" trend is sustained.
If this proves to be the case, more capacity may be introduced in the market as Aeroflot expands and modernises its freighter fleet from next year, he says.
