AUG 13, 2004 (newstodate): During the first quarter of 2004-05, the Air France-KLM Group recorded a strong recovery in cargo activity with a 11.7 percent increase in traffic.
The recovery did not, however, translate into a similar increase in traffic revenues that rose on 8.6 percent.
The increasingly competitive environment in the airfreight sector put pressure on the yield that declined by 2.7 percent including a negative currency effect of 2.4 percent.
Air France's cargo yield declined by 2.4 percent after taking into account a 2.2 percent negative currency effect.
KLM's cargo yield dropped by 3.2 percent after factoring in a negative currency impact of 2.9 percent.
