AUG 17, 2004 (newstodate): Iran's parliament has voted on a decision to sell off up to 49 percent of the stocks of the state-owned Iran Air.
In 2003 Iran Air operated a total of 37 aircraft on 42,267 domestic and 4,734 international flights, but the fleet mainly consists of obsolete Russian aircraft with a few Western-built expemptions.
It now remains to be seen if the decision will ultimately be ratified by the government hard-liners that has brought an earlier attemt to privatise the airline down.
Even if so there might still be a way to go before finding interested and risk-willing investors to the project.
