AUG 09, 2004 (newstodate): JAT is still negotiating with Airbus, alongside talks with Boeing, over renewal of the airline's fleet.
For the second time in 2004, JAT and Airbus Regional Sales Director Jerome Chariers conducted a fresh round of talks on in July to examine possibilities and ways of renewing JAT's fleet, the airline says.
-Both sides stated their readiness to seek long-term and mutually beneficial solutions regarding future business cooperation, a statement says.
In 1998, JAT inked a contract worth USD 400 million with Airbus for purchase of eight A319 aircraft and paid USD 23 million up front.
The aircraft, ordered under the former nationalistic government, were never delivered and the fate of the downpayment remains a bottleneck in the long-overdue fleet renewal issue.
