AUG 24, 2004 (newstodate): Swedavia, a subsidiary of the Swedish CAA, is in the closing stages of completing a Civil Aviation Master Plan for Bhutan, based on an agreement signed in 2002.
Swedavia will also carry out a Management Training Programme for key personnel in the Department of Civil Aviation that will be trained to set up and implement the Master Plan and become responsible for its further development.
The Master Plan for civil aviation will identify the needs of the sector and formulate recommendations for improving the airport and heliports, identify alternate airports for Paro, investigate communications and navigation equipment needs, develop a flight and safety policy, strengthen the legal, institutional and capacity systems from an environmental viewpoint, and examine staffing and training needs.
The project, supported by the Swedish state program for assistance to developing countries, will be completed by the end of 2004.
