SEP 23, 2004 (newstodate): Five aerospace companies of Russia and Ukraine have joined together to secure the production of the new regional jet, AN-148.
The aircraft, to be produced at Kiev and at the Voronezh aircraft manufacturing factories in Russia, is expected to become a potential successor to the ageing but still widely used TU-134, but may make a strong appeal to western operators as well.
The Russian ICF plans to offer the basic model, An-148-100 for lease to Russian and foreign air carriers.
The first aircraft will leave the assembly line this month, and will be ready for operation af ter the certification process in 2005.
Antonov has reportedly priced the aircraft at 17 million USD, quoting direct operating costs between 25 and 30 percent lower than the Embraer 170.
So far, Pulkovo has signed up for delivery of 10 aircraft.
