SEP 03, 2004 (newstodate): Bangkok is a destination in strong growth among exports in Scandinavia.
According to IATA CASS statistics, the Scandinavia markets generated a total of 1,673 tonnes of IATA air cargo during the period January-July.
During the period, Sweden shipped a total of 781 tonnes of IATA airfreight to Bangkok, up 9.6 percent on last year.
Denmark generated 628 tonnes to Bangkok, up 4.6 percent, while Norway contributed 264 tonnes, up 18.2 percent on the same period last year.
Bangkok is served by SAS and Thai Airways International from Copenhagen and Stockholm by direct flight, while Norway's exports for Bangkok are trucked into Copenhagen and other European gateways.
Norway remains without direct services to Bangkok while Thai has so far kept plans for a flight at Oslo Gardermoen as an extension of the operations at Copenhagen at hold.
Considering the large volumes of passengers and cargo for Thailand in the Swedish market, several projects have been aired for setting up new low-price services to connect the two markets with more direct fligths, while none have yet materialised.
