SEP 22, 2004 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo will put up a fight to increase its share of the Danish airfreight market.
A safe conjection by industry sources indicates that BAWC's share of the Danish market is currently below five percent.
-A strong effort will now be made, signalled by our take-over of the cargo sales work by a dedicated sales person engaging in direct talks with Danish freight forwarders, and tri-partite talks including shippers, says Chris A Nielen, BAWC area manager Benelux & Nordics.
-Actually few airlines in the Danish market offer direct nonstop cargo services, relying mostly, as we do, on transiting cargo through other hubs, he says.
-We truck or fly cargo into our UK hubs, or through our hub in Frankfurt from where Danish exports gain access to a wide range of US destinations including Chicago. This is a very important destination for Danish airfreight, of which 30 percent is destined for the US market, he says.
Mr Nielen also says that provided a critical mass is attained, he hopes to see Denmark and other Nordic markets comprised by BAWC's European shorthaul freighter network by next summer's traffic program
