SEP 06, 2004 (newstodate): While statistics on 2004 are still poor, Swedish airport Gothenburg Landvetter is seeing this year's cargo performance "above estimates".
-The period January-July actually showed an increase in volumes by 33 percent. We now also get data on trucked cargo indicating that the total cargo throughput at Gothenburg will reach some 120,000 tons in 2004, evenly distributed between flon and trucked cargo, says Bjorn Lennartz, Gothenburg Airport manager route development.
Behind the airport's statistical plights are problems since the start of the year at SAS Cargo from implementation of a new IT system that caused the airport to cease publication of monthly statistics as they proved highly marred by inconsistencies.
Mr Lennartz attributes this year's expected strong increase in cargo volumes to be due to LH Cargo/SAS Cargo's resumption of full capacity on their Gothenburg freighter routes, and the increase in capacity of both Polar and Emirates SkyCargo.
