SEP 16, 2004 (newstodate): Russia and CIS are important markets for Hannover Airport.
-Our focus on passengers and air cargo to and from Russia and the CIS states is not primarily driven by volumes. Only some two or three percent of the passengers are in these segments, and about 10 percent of the air cargo volumes, says Udo Siedler, Hannover Airport key account manager cargo.
-What is important, however, is that the traffic is high-yield traffic for us - and it is certainly growing as these economies gain momentum, he says.
-The passenger traffic is highly seasonal, so after daily flights during the summer, frequencies are now reduced to one or two weekly flights in the winter schedules. But as to air cargo this is not a great issue. During the summer, passenger loads are high, and the aircraft carry much passenger luggage, reduring cargo uplift. While during the winter time, passenger loads decline, leaving room for airfreight. So eventually ends meet nicely, says mr Siedler.
Several Russian and CIS airlines operate at Hannover airport, including Siberia Airlines, KrasAir, and Pulkovo Airlines.
In 2003, the airport generated a total of 5.1 million passengers, up 6.2 percent, and 7,000 tonnes of air cargo plus 50-75,000 tonnes of trucked freight in addition to 10,000 tonnes of mail.
