SEP 08, 2004 (newstodate): Slovak Airlines denies reports in media, including newstodate, of the company being in the process of taking in two Tu-214s to replace Boeing aircraft.
-I visited the Kazan manufacturing plant producing Tupolev to assess potentials for our JAR 145 approved technical base in future maintenance work on these new aircraft because of our past experience with Tupolev operations and maintenance. I checked their aircraft documentation including maintenance program, facility and instrumentation requirements, and we came to the conclusion that such cooperation is indeed possible, says Robert Domcek, Slovak Airlines quality manager.
-At the same time the Kazan representatives proposed the Tu-214 as an alternative to Slovak Airlines' Boeing 767. We agreed, however, that this issue should be referred to higher levels, leaving it for our directors general to discuss, he says.
Mr Domcek does expect further talks on the issue of offering maintenance services to future operators of the new Tu-214 once the existing aircraft documentation has been brought into compliance with JAR standards, which is considered fully feasible.
