JAN 20, 2005 (newstodate): On February 8, Billund Airport, Denmark, will become the first to complete the certification process by Cool Chain Association standards.
The certificate will be presented on February 10 at Fruit Logistica, the International Trade Fair for Fruit and Vegetables Marketing in Berlin.
Billund Airport will thus become not only the first airport to be certified under Cool Chain Association's certification program, managed by Germanischer Lloyd, but also the first company in the world to achieve this certificate.
-When we first heard of the certification according to the Cool Chain Quality Indicators we were immediately convinced that we should join the program, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport cargo manager.
-On joining the proces we already had what was considered a rather high level of quality management including written and published standard for all elements in the handling of perishables. But I can safely say that even so the qualification process has been most demanding in terms of time, money, human resources and management involvement, he says.
-I am convinced that within, say, five years, demanding customers in the perishables logistics will expect their suppliers and providers to be CCQI certified, and the certification will become a significant competitive parameter.
