JAN 10, 2005 (newstodate): In 2004, air passengers volumes at Lithuania's international airports continued to grow, while air cargo declined.
The country's three main airports handled 1,097,000 passengers last year, up 41 percent from 2003, while air cargo was down by 26.3 percent to 8,770 tonnes.
Vilnius Airport dropped 0.6 percent in cargo, to 5,180 tonnes, while Kanuas was down 51.6 percent to 3,230 tonnes, and Palanga Airport dropped 50 percent to 62 tonnes.
The underlying reason for the weak cargo performance is probably the increased airline cargo trucking boosted by the country's entry into the EU by May 1, and the ensuing ease of border crossing
