JAN 11, 2005 (newstodate): Croatian airport Osijek, near Vukovar, is planning for a future in air cargo business.
During the first 30 days under new management headed by airport director Blanka Strahonja, the airport has seen 10 cargo flights with IL-76 aircraft carrying fresh fish from Tanzania destined for the European market.
The IL-76 operator has now signed a contract with the airport for 2005, and will be landing in Osijek twice a week with fish to be trucked from there to markets in western Europe.
The airport comprises a cargo terminal with a 1,720 sq.m. warehouse divided into a customs warehouse, a perishables storage warehouse, and a warehouse sector of 567 sq.m. facilitating packing, palettisation and build/break of containers.
