Dec 14, 2005 (newstodate): DHL is currently constructing a new 50,000 sq m DHL Business Center at Helsinki Vantaa Airport at a cost of some 55 million euro.
The project includes a terminal and a warehouse that will become operational from the end of Q1, 2006, and an office building, completed by June 1, 2006.
-The new Business Center will enable us to combine all the facilities of DHL Express, now at three individual sites in Helsinki, and DHL Solutions including a 20,000 sq m warehouse at one place, leaving only DHL Air & Ocean Shipping at its current location, but with a future option of moving to the new Business Center as well, says Timo Jaakola, DHL Express Finland Managing Director.
The new center is located in the southeast area of the airport, and will gain direct airside access to the freighter parking area via a tunnel under a runway, and airside road access to the terminal area.
-We see no problem with the infrastructure, and in the long term the freight forwarders are expected to move here, too.
-The project builds on investments by a Finnish insurance company, and it has been greatly supported by Helsinki Vantaa Airport, says Mr Jaakola.
