FEB 08, 2005 (newstodate): Thales has won two for the supply of three primary radars and of two secondary radars for Serbia and Montenegro as part of the air traffic management modernisation programme.
Thales will install two STAR 2000 S-band solid state approach primary radars co-mounted with RSM 970 Mode S monopulse secondary surveillance radar on the Koviona and Murtenica mountains in Serbia.
One STAR 2000 radar will also be installed at Podgorica airport in Montenegro.
The radars will improve the terminal approach of Belgrade and Podgorica airports and the en-route control for Serbia and Montenegro.
The airspace in Serbia and Montenegro is of great strategic importance for traffic to the southern Balkans and south-east Mediterranean, accounting for about 250,000 flights per year.
