FEB 08, 2005 (newstodate): Designated Boeing 737-900X, this new Boeing aircraft may become a direct competitor to Airbus A321, the largest member of the Airbus A320 family.
After years of unsuccesful attempts to find a European or Asian launch customer for the latest newcomer to its Boeing 737 family, the aircraft producer is now ostensibly pinning new hopes on Japan Airlines that recently announced it will order 30 737 aircraft in the coming months, with options for another 10 aircraft.
The proposed Boeing 737-900X will be configured to take 220 passengers against the 189 passengers that can be lifted by the two currently biggest versions of the Boeing 737.
