FEB 1q6, 2005 (newstodate): Boeing has launched the latest member of its Boeing 777 family - the 777-200LR aircraft.
Extending the range of the 777 family by more than 2,775 kilometers, the 777-200LR will allow airlines to service nonstop routes such as New York-Singapore and Los Angeles-Dubai at full passenger capacity and carry revenue cargo.
The first 777-200LR Worldliner is to be delivered to Pakistan International Airlines in January 2006, including two aircraft. EVA Airways is another 777-200LR launch customer with an order for three aircraft.
The 777-200LR will also serve as the platform for the Boeing 777 Freighter offering 101 tonnes capacity. Authority to offer the 777 Freighter was announced in November, but no orders have been landed yet.
Boeing claims that the 777-200LR, competing directly with Airbus A340-600 and A340-500 aircraft, will lower seat-mile costs by 15 to 18 percent against the Airbus option.
