FEB 18, 2005 (newstodate): A new interim administration has now been appointed to steer JAT through troubled waters during the next six months.
Nebojsa Starcevic has been named to replace Aleksandar Milutinovic as the carrier's new managing director.
The Serbian government has given JAT and its ne interim managing director a very detailed mandate for the next six months under the interim administration.
Already from March, the foundation will be laid for a privatisation of a range of current JAT activities including hotels and flight academy.
As part of the reconstruction now to be enforced, some 900 staff will be made redundant.
With the decion it is hoped that the mechanics will call off their strike, announced to start from midnight today, as their basic demands on wage issues have now been met.
After the succesful restructuring of JAT, the government will confirm Mr Starcevic as managing director, and prepare to carry through the long-overdue plan for new aircraft acquisitions.
