FEB 17, 2005 (newstodate): With effect from March 5, Danish airline Cimber Air has decided to suspend services on its route served since May 3, 2004, between Copenhagen and Kiev.
-We are definitely interested in this destination, and have enjoyed a very succesful cooperation with Unkraine International that was our code-share partner on the route, says Lone koch, Cimber Air VP.
-We must, however, respond to a slowly developing market still in its early phase. We have had a satisfactory passenger demand from Copenhagen to Kiev, while it was obviously difficult to build up traffic in the opposite direction due to a number of reasons, including demanding visa procedures as Denmark does not presently have an embassy or consular services in Ukraine.
Cimber Air stresses that once conditions mature, including the permanent setup of a Danish consulate in Kiev, the airline will reconsider the business case.
Cargo-wise the route contributed little due to the insignificant cargo capacity on the airline's Canadair Regional Jets.
Also Cimber Air did not manage to contract a local air cargo GSA to promote its cargo product.
