FEB 24, 2005 (newstodate): WFS, global provider of cargo handling servicews, will open a new cargo station at Copenhagen Airport in 2006.
This will bring back competition to the airport where SAS Cargo has reigned supreme since the demise of former Novia Cargo on January 1, 2003.
WFS' long-awaited decision to establish cargo handling at Copenhagen Airport follows on a 30 yearsfull scope cargo handling concession contract signed with the airport authority.
The contract includes a long-term landside lease of 16,000 sq.m. with direct airside access, at Kastrup, facilitating the construction of a new cargo terminal of 7,000 sqm with an annual cargo handling capacity of 60,000 tonnes.
Work on the new cargo terminal will start in March 2005, and the terminal is scheduled to become fully operational by February 2006.
WFS Denmark A/S will be offering a full range of cargo handling services, including physical handling, import and export, warehousing, palletisation, document control, cargo security including X-ray, ULD control, PIF, mail handling, pan European road feeder system, as well as handling services to forwarders and integrators.
In 2004, WFS handled 2.5 million tonnes of air cargo generated by 300 customers at 57 cargo stations worldwide, 15 of them ISO certified.
