MAR 07, 2005 (newstodate): A new cargo airport will be constructed on the border between Jordan and Iraq.
Construction work will start in June this year, and the airport will be located in a new free trade zone on the Jordanian-Iraqi border that will be opened from March 21, 2005.
Plans are to generate freighter traffic to provide uplift for the transfer and export of products manufactured in the region and in the free trade zone.
The airport, estimated to cost some 70 million USD, will reportedly be financed by "foreign" investors.
