MAY 04, 2005 (newstodate): At its meeting on April 28, Aeroflot's board of directors reviewed the issue of acquiring new regional jet aircraft.
In August 2004, the carrier opened a tender for up to 50 regional aircraft from either Russian or western manufacturers.
According to the tender materials, Aeroflot plans to take in the new aircraft during the period 2005-2010.
Among the western contenders are Fokker, Embraer, and Bombardier.
The first phase with technical assessments of viable aircraft types was completed by September 30, 2004.
During the second phase, financial issues, leasing terms and procurement costs have been detailed, and the board of directors have now considered the results of the tender and various options for buying or leasing the shortlisted aircraft.
No details on the eventual choice of aircraft, or the date for signing the final contract, have yet been published, but the decision might expectedly be announced at the forthcoming aerospace exhibition at le Bourget, Paris, in June.
