MAY 19, 2005 (newstodate): Airbus expects deliveries of freighters to the world's operators to total 3,139 aircraft during 2004-2023.
In the segment of very large aircraft, 391 of the new freighters will be converted aircraft, while 398 will be new aircraft delivered by Boeing and Airbus, including the Airbus A380F and freighter versions of Boeing 747.
Airbus expects 80 percent of all cargo to be flown on long-haul intercontinental routes between hubs, with the world's top-10 cargo hubs taking 42 percent of totals.
The concentration on hubs in the cargo industry will thus by far exceed that of passenger hubs, where the world's top-10 internatoinal passenger hubs will take only 24 percent of the total traffic, Airbus says.
So far Airbus has landed orders for a total of 27 A380 freighters.
